Leaping for Leopard

By now you might be wayyyy over army green as evidenced from here, here and here, and wondering if we know of any other colors. Surprise, we do! For awhile I was completely ambivalent about leopard in any use. I think I had seen it overused a few too many times growing up and written it off.

In typical fashion, I then saw it used correctly and promptly did an about face. I went in search of good options – I remember admiring the Clare V clutch that every blogger seemed to have but not admiring the price tag so much with my lack of funds.

From there, it was no turning back. I found any and all leopard and just went for it completely, by wearing it head to toe. Just kidding. I started incorporating in subtly starting with some shoes from Nordstrom Rack and working my way up with skirts and sweaters.

Caitlin and I always have felt that there is a right way and a wrong way to do leopard print and we also feel very strongly about camo print as well, which we’ll show you in an upcoming post! One of the places that has gotten it right season after season, is J. Crew!

Even though they usually do an “updated” style, it’s usually a very subtle change. In fact the pieces we are wearing are from different seasons. This means they’ll last you for years to come!

We don’t know about you, but when we’re shopping, we never pick up pieces and hope they go out of style in the next year or two. Leopard has been around forever and rest assured it isn’t going anywhere!

We love that although people are typically against mixing brown and black, it’s the one agreed upon print that does it unapologetically!

So as referenced above, my skirt is a birthday gift from Caitlin from J. Crew factory. J Crew may not seem like the most budget friendly place, but they do offer tall sizing on select items and have coupon codes pretty regularly. Caitlin also discovered they’re student friendly, offering an additional discount on top of any others! We’re lucky that we now have a store in town – always a plus for tall girls to go and try on regular sizing to see if the fit is right!

It’s obviously above the knee on me, not being a tall but not even close to being risque or inappropriately short, which is usually a concern for workwear!

Today’s outfit is clearly a showcase of what happens when we shop at regular retailers, as evidenced by the too short sleeves on this turtleneck from H&M. I couldn’t resist the button details on the sleeves, what can I say!

Franco Sarto is another favorite for great shoes! They tie in perfectly with the cognac and black!

Caitlin found this perfect sweater at J. Crew factory as well. As you can tell, the sleeves definitely go the distance for a small tall.

I don’t know about you, but our office environments usually tend towards arctic, and this sweater is also the perfect weight to layer and Caitlin has done it both over and under. Makes it so easy to re-wear.

Her black pants are popping up again from this post, and are Old Navy. The retailer who is known for cheap options makes some pretty legit pants that we’ve been able to wear repeatedly!

J Crew has always suckered us in when we visit in store with their fun jewelry options, and this necklace was no exception!

We’re pretty selective about our print wearing, which makes finding great options so exciting! Tell us, do you embrace prints with a passion? Or maybe you rock the solids, either way tell us below!
