Spring is Coming…?

That’s our fervent hope at least, but here in Wisconsin we’ve only been granted small glimpses. Any good Midwesterner will tell you, we don’t give up hope – even when we’ve been going on our sixth(?!) month of wearing sweaters.

Thankfully as the world grows smaller and shipping grows faster and more abundant to other places in the world, we can take advantage of sweaters being stocked “out of season,” or in our case most of our seasons! (excuse us, just sobbing quietly in hopes of more sun).

All jokes aside, your layer game has to be strong living in the Midwest, especially the Northern Midwest. Sweaters have traditionally been a difficult topic for tall women, as we’ve resorted to finding cuffed sweaters and cutting the fabric to unfold it and make the sleeve longer, or more typically just buying the largest size we can get in hopes that the sleeves grow as the size grows!

No more is that the case, with plenty of retailers at least providing basic traditional sweater options. When we’re looking for tall, on trend sweaters; our go-to has been Asos. This cream beauty has just enough detail to take you beyond boring. With the volume sleeve and the fun woven detailing, it is super versatile.

We don’t know about you; but when we find something we like, we full on commit to it. In this case, it’s our love for the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. We may or may not have every. single. palette. Oops! But as they say, when you know – you know.  Nothing makes getting ready in the morning easier than opening up those palettes and having perfect colors to mix and match for a great natural but fun look.  The best part is each palette is suited for different eye colors but they still work for whatever eye color you have. In this case, the colors best suited would be the original Naked Palette and the Naked 2 Palette.

Another surprise contender in my closet is my love for Express denim. My whole career of working there, I made do with one pair of jeans, bought in store – because “I just knew” they weren’t long enough for me. Caitlin, being the small tall – bought a couple pairs and I was instantly jealous with how good they looked and how well they fit her. She finally convinced me to give them a shot and I am so glad!

While they definitely could be longer especially with a 37-38’ inseam normally; the ankle jean look is in, and so are the ankle booties. This look has become a go-to in our closets. Express denim has become the jeans I put on when I want to look good AND feel good.

Caitlin found this awesome wrap sweater from Asos as well. Wrap sweaters are ideal for tall women because they hug our curves in all the right places and are adjustable, which means even if you find a top at a regular sized retailer, you’re much more likely to be able to make it work for you!

Her Gap denim is ah-mazingly versatile. The high waist is super flattering on our long frames and it gives the booty an extra lift!

Ballet flats are the perfect answer to any question about shoes. You can dress them up, wear them casually, just don’t wear them to the gym – you’ll get funny looks trying to workout in them. Sam Edelman has served us larger footed women well, going up to size 13 in some of their shoe options (although they could stand to provide a few more shoe options in larger sizes we are getting our wear out of these).

I know that’s not just us blabbering about weird sweater hacks. Sound off in the comments on what you’ve resorted to, in hopes of making a sweater work for you!

Fellow tall girl (5’10”) and I just discovered the “boyfriend sweater,” i.e., buying a men’s sweater from a store like JCrew in your usual women’s size or one larger. It’s amazing!! Never turning back.
