It’s Gingham Week!

Good Morning and welcome to Gingham week(s) here on the blog! Although we may be getting rained on, we spent the weekend in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and were blessed with absolutely gorgeous weather and wonderful family time! We hope everyone was able to enjoy their Mother’s Day, whether you were celebrating your  mom, or are a mom yourself, or even if you’re hoping or on your way to becoming a mom.

Our mom is a avid runner and requested we do a race with her up north. We had originally intended to try the half marathon with her, but we didn’t have quite enough time to train for that so we ended up doing the 10k, which was quite enough! Caitlin ran through her spring cold and was a true champion, and thank goodness we had each other to encourage throughout the race.

It was definitely a weekend to remember; we ended up seeing bears in our Grandma’s front yard! In all our years of being up there, we have never seen bears but have heard about them repeatedly – which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence when you’re going for a run in the woods. But nonetheless, we were inside when they crossed and our more brave Aunt tried to run outside for a picture and they turned and ran away. So hopefully that would be the same experience should we happen across a bear on a walk/run!

We got our Mom some fun gifts this year, it’s fun to be able to take inspiration from things she mentions in passing and find a gift she’ll love! From the not so romantic glass tupperware, to the beautiful Alex and Ani bracelet she got a range of gifts. At 6’2, our Mom is a tall lady herself, so she also got two tall friendly gifts. She wanted a pair of these long inseam running shorts. She also has been looking at jumpsuits, and I ended up buying her this one – it fit her beautifully!

As you can tell from above – we made some great memories. Onto the real reason for today’s post – Gingham! The print is having a true moment right now, and we are here for it. In fact, we were so inspired by it, we put together four posts to show you the various ways it can be worn, from dressy to casual.

We’ll start it off with these perfect shorts we found at Gap. An important thing for us now that we’re not 16 and looking for the the shortest hemline we can get away with while still being considered shorts – is a reasonable tall girl inseam. I think we’ve found the sweet spot at 4 inches. It manages to cover enough without looking frumpy.

Another reason to wax poetic about these shorts is the cut of them! Having a more athletic frame (ie thick thighs), it is super flattering to have an A-line cut to not have the shorts cutting into your legs or riding up because they’re tight.

We wanted to pair them with bodysuits because what better option to take you from day to night than an off shoulder bodysuit! This way you minimize the awkward tan lines that usually occur from standing in the sun at picnics or other summer outings. We can already imagine a day festival – Milwaukee has so many great ones to test this out with!

Throw on a pair of strappy sandals and your look is finished. If you wanted to make it really fun, you could add a bandana headband or even try tying one around your neck!

Tell us below, do you have a sweet spot for your shorts inseam to be comfortable?
